You went to the fair opening weekend and now you have no idea what to do the rest of the month. The weather is gorgeous and you want to take advantage of it. I get it! I did the hard work and found seven local events happening this October.
Here are seven really fun things to do in Dallas, Texas in October.
1 // Sommelier for a day – October 5, 2016
III Forks offers a $20 wine and hors d’oeuvres event on the first Wednesday of every month. Guests have the opportunity to vote on their top wines. The winning wine will be featured on the next month’s menu! What an awesome date night!
2 // The Dallas Arboretum
You’ve never seen so many pumpkins in one place in your entire life. The Dallas Arboretum displays roughly 90,000 pumpkins this time of year. Not only can you enjoy the nice weather by strolling through the gardens, there is also occasional live music and free pumpkin paintings. They also feature an Octoberfest Beer Garden! Check out their website for more details.
3 // Windsong Wine and Music Festival – October 15
Of course there is more than one wine event on my list! Located in Prosper, the Windsong Wine and Musical Festival features eleven Texas wineries. Admission and valet parking are free! Wine tastings are only $1 and a glass is only $5! I love everything about that last sentence.
4 // Operation Kindess 40th Anniversary – October 22, 2016
This event stood out because I adopted my kitty from Operation Kindness! They are the oldest and original no-kill shelter in North Texas and they are celebrating their 40th anniversary in all the right ways! Free admission and parking! There will be pet vendors, contests and a puppy kissing booth! The first 125 dogs get complimentary microchipping, too!
5 // Tacolandia – October 15, 2016
Yes, it is as wonderful as it sounds. Dallas Observer is having its outdoor Taco sampling event on October 15 featuring all styles and types of tacos. There will also be live music and drinks. Why can’t this be a thing everyday??
6 // Murders and Mayhem Tours – October 27 & 28, 2016
Head over to the Farmers Branch Historical Park where there will be some fantastic tours based on the works of Edgar Allen Poe. Creepy dude, right? You will explore murder and mayhem tales from the Victorian Era and get into the Halloween spirit. May not be suitable for young children.
7 // AIA Tour of Homes – October 29, 2016
Features self-guided tours through several homes in the Dallas area. Explore some of the greatest design work in North Texas. Purchase tickets online and save $5. All proceeds go to the the American Institute of Architecture – Dallas chapter! So cool!
